Behind the scene: Art as a Hobby

From the very beginning, art is something I adore the most. It is like an act of freedom where I do not have any pressure to make it perfect. I just need to trust the process and enjoy it while doing. From my childhood, I chose this path as my hobby. I used to love to do origami when I was in kindergarten as it was a part of activity in school as well. It was probably my favorite thing more than drawing. But it changed when I went to primary school as there was so little origami that I slowly lost interest in it. Art was a mandatory subject so I started to focus on that even more which became my hobby later on.

Even though drawing is my favorite thing, I always skipped the art competitions and craft works in school events. Everyone always insisted that I should participate in those events to show them my skills but I always stayed away from that. This hobby was something I wanted to keep within myself. Even a few years ago there were really less people who knew that I could draw. It is not like that anymore because I got the courage to show people my works now.

Sometimes my art was good and sometimes it was worse than I can imagine. When our watercolor practice session started, I still remember the weird things I used to do. Once I could not blend the watercolors properly so I cut down the brush toe instead of changing the brush in order to make the art perfect with just one brush. But it turned out even worse and I couldn't figure out what exactly happened. Till now watercolor drawing is not my preferred method.

The sketching session was a source of great interest for me and it’s still here. I noticed that the amount of time and effort I give to sketching is much higher than other mediums. The use of more sketching tools has enabled me to improve it further now. There were no more drawing classes after high school so I spent less time drawing due to study pressure. For more than a one and a half I didn’t draw at all.

During a vacation, I started to bring back my hobby again. Art has always been a part of my life from that time until now. There was no pressure to get better or to perform but challenge myself to grow. I started to understand that I shouldn't let this hobby go. So I keep practicing whenever I get free time. To gain inspiration, I explore many talented artists through art exhibitions and online platforms.

Above all types, Portrait sketch is my favorite one. I have been drawing portrait arts for more than 6 years and now I can say practice really makes one perfect. There is a thing called art block that mostly all artists face while drawing and so do I. It's like you want to draw but do not get inspiration to do it. So many ideas in the mind but it becomes blank when you want to put it on paper.

Beside sketching, I tried out some other art mediums like acrylic, fine art, doodle and somehow I loved them too. I prefer to draw nature scenario, flowers, anime with acrylic medium. Well still watercolor is not for me. Sometimes I dare myself to draw with watercolor and leave it immediately like I can't control the colors at all. I believe not every artist can draw everything. There is a certain type of art that the artist wants to work on. Every artist has different types of style they adore. As an artist I still don’t know what exactly my art type is. In social media and other platforms I always see artists exploring their art style and keep on upgrading them. I also want something like that so I keep on drawing different mediums and types to find out what I like the most. Maybe someday I will be able to find out my art style too which will help me to express my own vision.
